Chelmsford - Chelmsford Cricket Ground
New Writtle Street : CM2 0PG
Bicycle racing at the Chelmsford Cricket Ground was on grass with a course of 5 laps to the mile. The Field of July 11th 1885 reported the Essex County Cyclists' Association* held their 5 miles championship race at the County Ground. The other events were a 1 mile open handicap race and a 2 miles handicap for ECCA members. The event was preceded by the annual meet and procession and followed, in the evening, by a banquet in the Corn Exchange.

The cricket ground is still in use and has been home to Essex County Cricket Club since 1967.

* The Essex County Cyclists' Association was formed in 1881 and all Essex bicycle clubs affiliated to the body. It promoted the annual ‘Meet and procession of Essex wheelmen' and the 5 miles Essex championship race.
